Pre-Columbian gold septum pieces.
Please inquire if interested, and yes, they are expensive.
These come mounted in a Riker mount display box with a museum-style descriptive card.
Both of these are amazing collector's pieces,
and are some of the most gorgeous pieces to pass through my acquisitions!
This septum piece is from Peru (Salinar, circa 400-200 BCE).
It is made from a thick flat hammered sheet of gold, is flat in cross-section and oval shaped overall, with a gap at the top; the metal is flexible to allow for insertion. It is rather sturdy, and is not as thin as foil:
the thickness measures approximately 26ga at it's thinnest points along the edges of the piece.
Overall, it measures 1-1/2" from left to right and 1-5/16" from top to bottom.
It weighs 6.3 grams, or 0.22 oz.
Three very different Colombia (circa 800-1000 CE Uraba) pre-Columbian gold septum pieces.
Both the front and back views are shown. Please call for pricing.
The top one is 3-3/4" long and has some good weight to it; like sheet metal rather than foil,
the middle cutie has thin wings projecting from each side,
and the bottom one is the most compact; probably 4ga minimum to insert.
The front and back views are shown for this septum piece, which harkens from Panama (Veraguas, circa 500-1100 CE). It is a heavy high karat gold foil over a (probably) copper core.
It is round in cross-section and c-shaped overall, with a small gap at the bottom to allow for insertion.
Tiny gaps or pits in the outer foil near the bottom opening are windows into the inner part of the piece which exhibits a green patina. It is otherwise in very good condition.
This is a very large and heavy gorgeous example of this type of septum ring.
It weighs 31.2 grams, or 1.1 oz (much of which is the weight of the core, rather than the gold itself).
Overall, it measures between 1-3/16" and 1-1/4" from left to right and between 1" and 1-1/16" from top to bottom. It is approximately 3/8" thick at the top and just over 3/8" near the gap.
A series of small clay Aztec plugs with nice decorations from an old anthropologist's collection.
Prices vary as shown. The first piece has SOLD.
Two more excavated Aztec plugs. The first has a concave portion and is $75.
The last piece is made out of white shell and is flared and hollow. $60.
Three different pre-Columbian stone labrets from Mexico. Front, side, and back views shown.
The first is concave and has a chip out of the front rim ($160).
The second is dark grey (probably basalt) with a rather porous texture ($150).
The third is a large obsidian labret with a polished front ($250-SOLD).
Three views shown of this Guerrero, Mexico, pre-Columbian obsidian labret.
It has a tiny chip out of one side as shown. The wearing surface averages 9/16".
